Harpsichords
Barcelona Zell Harpsichord
A copy of the so-called Barcelona Zell, an instrument by the Hamburg maker Christian Zell, built by Owen Daly of Salem, Oregon. The case is painted in the chinoiserie manner — black lacquer ground with pagodas, cranes, and flowering trees rendered in gold and red — while the lid interior opens to reveal a sweeping golden landscape of rooftops, birds, and willows. Both the lid painting and the case decoration are faithful copies of the decoration of the original instrument.
