Dutch-inspired Colmar Ruckers

Dutch-inspired copy of the Colmar Ruckers harpsichord made by Kevin Fryer, 2004 — full instrument showing deep crimson case with gold scrollwork
Copy of the "Colmar" Ruckers by Ioannes Ruckers, 1624. Copy made by Kevin Fryer, 2004. Now in the collection of Trinity Church, Manhattan.

A second copy of the celebrated Colmar Ruckers, decorated in a Dutch still-life tradition with richly painted fruit and botanical motifs.

Where the first Colmar copy draws on Flemish ornamental conventions, this 2004 instrument by Kevin Fryer takes its decorative cues from the Dutch Golden Age — the bentside panels adorned with overflowing fruit baskets, tulips, and scrolling acanthus in the manner of the great still-life painters. The deep crimson case with gilded mouldings provides a sumptuous ground for the naturalistic painting. The instrument now belongs to Trinity Church in Manhattan.
