Neo-classical Sitting Room

Neo-classical sitting room with painted ceiling ornament, mint-green walls, and period furnishings

A painted interior drawing on neoclassical ornament for an Edwardian sitting room.

This project brought neoclassical decorative painting into a 1903 Colonial Revival interior — a sitting room whose architecture called for the restrained elegance of late 18th century ornament. The ceiling features banding, a central medallion, and delicate painted detail in a palette sympathetic to the room's mint-green walls and period furnishings. The swags on the ceiling decoration are inspired by the wooden swags on the mantelpiece. This is the iconic house at the corner of Haight & Ashbury in San Francisco.
